Chrysalis Theatre and VIDEO IN Co-Present:

Liminal by Tanya Marquardt October 26th – 29th, 2004

“Every fifteen minutes I feel ashamed of myself at least once. And humiliated. For no reason. It just comes back to me over and over again. Do you ever feel that way?” - Girl in Liminal

A young girl’s journey towards death in a white satin evening gown laced with embalming fluid, Liminal is a melding of installation, performance and live electro-acoustic music, about the fear of transition in the face of confusion and death. In order to live, a young girl must face her fear of the unknown, embracing her confusion in the way we embrace our lovers, strongly and without flinching. See Magazine called it “a rare visual experience that leaves the audience breathless...” and is directed by Tanya Marquardt with assistance by Laura Quigley and Barbara Bourget, featuring performers Stephanie Hayes, Emma Hendrix and Miranda Huba. Sound design is by CoinGutter, Tanya Marquardt, and John Popkin. Producer is Velveeta Krisp.

“Marquardt is a brave writer and performer; the playwright speaks of the masks we wear and how they obstruct our desire for authenticity…an excellent example of the kind of theatre coming out of SFU: fearless and conceptually challenging.” – Jo Ledingham, The Vancouver Courier
